There are 2 things to notice in this census record. First, note that John Newton (Angus's father) is living next to Angus McQuaig (Angus Newton's mother's family). Second, note that Angus Newton is shown to be between 10 (BD of 1830) and 15 (BD of 1825) years old at this time.

Angus Newton to Lucia McCallum. State of Alabama, County of Butler. This deed made this the 8th day of May, 1905 by Angus Newton of the state of Alabama and county of Butler, party of the first part, to Lucia McCallum, of the county of Robeson and state of North Carolina, party of the second part. Witnesseth: That the said party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred dollars ($300) to him in hand paid by the said party of the second part, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, has bargained, sold and conveyed, and does by these presents bargain, sell and convey unto the said Lucia McCallum, the party of the second part, her heirs and assigns forever, a certain tract or parcel of land in the county of Robeson and state of North Carolina, which said tract is described as follows. To wit: On the west side of Mitchell Swamp, containing about 263 acres, and being four tracts, one containing 11 acres, one containing 40 acres, one containing 113 acres, and one containing 100 acres, being the same lands on which Malcom McQuaig lived at the time of his death and the same lands on which Daniel McQuaig and Christina McQuaig lived up to the time of their death and the same lands on which the said Angus Newton formerly lived, said lands being bounded one the north by A. T. McKellar, V. G. Pleasants, W. S. Ivey on the south by Julia Ann Leggette and D. Campbell and R. H. Braswell and George McCormack, the 100 acres tract included in the above boundaries was conveyed to Malcom McQuaig by Isaac Foby by deed recorded in the Registers Office of Robeson County in Book B, at page 347, and is a part of the 263 acres herein conveyed and 5 acres of land in the above boundaries was conveyed to Evander Power by Angus McQuaig and one to the colored school. The foregoing described lands - 263 acres - being the same lands as were conveyed to Lucia McCallum by Angus McQuaig as arrears from the deed for the said property which is dated January 7th, 1897 and which is registered in the office of the register in Robeson County, North Carolina in Book VVV at page 365. To have and to hold the above described lands, together with the rights, privileges and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining, unto her, the said party of the second part, her heirs and assigns forever. In witness whereof the said party of the first part has hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal the day and year first above written

Mr. Angus Newton died at his home a few miles from this place last week after a long painful illness. He was 76 years old and the last of a large family who moved to this County from North Carolina many years ago. Two sons survive Mr. Newton. The burial took place at the Craig Cemetery and many relatives and friends were present.

John Thomas Newton dies at the age of 81. John Thomas (Babe) Newton died Sunday. He suffered a stroke Saturday night, was carried to the hospital, where he succumbed a few hours later. Mr. Newton was a member of the large pioneer Newton family. He was never married. He operated a farm for many years, residing about five miles south of Greenville, on the Old Graham Mill Road. Mr. Newton had been living with his niece, Mrs. Winston Thomas (Lillie Dhu Newton) and Mr. Thomas. Surviving are other nieces and nephews, and many other relatives. Funeral services were conducted from Ebenezer Baptist Church Monday afternoon, with the Rev. Ralph Mullins officiating. Burial in the church cemetery with Dunklin Funeral Home directing

Jim Newton died suddenly early Monday. Jim Newton, 73, died at six o'clock Monday morning at his home South of Greenville. Death came suddenly as he was beginning the day's work on his farm. Mr. Newton was a member of the large and well known Newton family of Bulter county. He was well known throughout the county, and had many friends who heard of his sudden death with deep regret. Surviving are three sons, Aubrey Newton and Percy Newton, Chapman, and Cedric Newton, Mobile; three daughters, Mrs. Lillie Dhue Thomas, Greenville; Mrs. Ella Sue Reeves, Chapman, and Mrs. Bonnie Archer, Mobile; 13 grand-childred' one brother, John Newton, Greenville. Funeral services were conducted at four o'clock Tuesday afternoon at Ebenezer Church, with the Rev. Ralph Mullins and REv. O. D. Cargile officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Dunklin Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Lela Mae Morgan Newton, 88, died suddenly early Wednesday morning, Nov. 19, while visiting here daughter Mrs. George Reeves in Chapman. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Nov. 20, at 3:00 P.M., at the Ebenezer Baptist Church, burial in the church Cemetery, he Rev. R. A. Mullins officiating. Dunklin Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. Newton was the widow of the late J. A. Newton of Greenville, Route 1 and a member of the Methodist Church. She was born Dec. 7, 1883 to the late Mr. and Mrs. James M. Morgan, natives of Butler county; was married to J. A. Newton Sept. 16, 1906. She spent most of her life in and around Greenville, except for a few years of early married life, when Mr. Newton was employed by a lumber company in Paxton, Fla. She continued to reside at her homne eight miles south of Greenville after the death of her husband. Her death was a shock and the source of deepest regret to her many friends and loved ones. Surviving are three daughtrers, Mrs. Ella Sue Reeves, Chapman, Mrs. Bonnie Archer, Mobile, Mrs. Lille Dhu Thomas, Greenville, Rte. 1; three sons, Aubrey, Greenville, Rte. 1, Percy, Chapman, Cedric, Mobile; fourteen grand-children; a nephew, Guy M. Morgan, Oxford, Ala.
